Introduction
What is Clinical Engineering? In this chapter, the reader can find the evolution of this discipline over the years. Traditional activities performed by clinical engineers, such as testing and maintenance of medical devices, are today merged with many other tasks that require appropriate training and competence. Many fields of knowledge have to be mastered by today’s professionals, in the light of an always growing complexity of medical technologies.
